Hey...Thanks for the bits and pieces!

I sure wish she'd get some STORY. I keep hoping she will one of these days but I'm not holding my breath or anything.

Story is still up in the air for Kayla? I wonder if the show wants to break up her and Steve or kill Steve off but is just too afraid to go there. I recall when Kayla first returned in December that there was a scene with her and Sami focusing on Sami wanting to renew her vows with Rafe. I forget what Kayla said but what she said and her facial expression sort of implied maybe her and Steve were having issues, at least to me. It's come off to me in the last few years the show wants to have her around more but feels limited by the fact she's married to Steve.

The show probably fears that Stephen Nichols will be let go from Y&R the minute they decide to kill Steve off again. Tucker is important over at Y&R but that cast has about 7000 people. Everyone thinks DAYS cast is huge but Y&R has a cast full of expensive A-list stars and way more of them. Anyone can disappear from that cast at any time as long as their name isn't Eric Braeden or MTS and both of them almost did too.

I would be reluctant if I was the show. But they can't be sure that he would even come back so I say just kill him off. If anything it makes his return from the dead even more interesting if Kayla has attempted to have a life again.

I don't think they need to kill him off. It would be easy to just say that all the years they spent apart took their toll and that Steve and Kayla have grown apart (especially with Kayla having spent so much time in Salem away from him) and have them divorce off-screen. Then, if the inconceivable happens, and Stephen Nichols leaves Y&R and comes back to DAYS, they don't have to waste time covering the back-from-the-dead ground (which, on this show, is beyond tired) all over again. Problem solved.

That would be great but Corday is probably worried about pissing off the fanbase so it won't happen.

It's funny...in summer 2009 he basically made the statement he was through with supercouple fanbases and, yet, when it came time to reboot in 2011, he went right back to supercouples and now seems all about fearing them. He really can't make up his mind what he wants this show to be.

Very interesting that she brought up how Kayla's a pillar of strength in times of loss. Looks like this "serial killer" rumor might be the real deal.

As far as Peggy is concerned, if she's in good health, I'm confused as to why DAYS isn't featuring her?

I still think they should make Kayla the Salem Police department forensic doctor instead of a bar keep. At least as a doctor she would be involved with Roman, Bo and Hope. Like I said before.. What a Complete Waste of Talent.

I wish they would stop being such pansies and just divorce Steve and Kayla. They seem to think that they can't write for her without him, so just divorce them and stop wasting her.

I know that some fans would be crazy enough to be upset with Days, but I also believe (or want to believe!) that most would understand that their hands are tied in this situation. If you want to see Steve, turn to CBS. Say he got a new job in Wisconsin and it forced them apart. Sheesh. It's just pathetic that they don't know how to write for her without her other half. It's such a waste of a good actress (I'm blocking out that whole Carly/Kayla/Paternity test thing)!

If I want to see Steve, I turn to youtube, actually.

I think the "wink, wink" treatment would be a dumb mistake. Most viewers aren't on the boards and don't follow the soap world so closely, so it just looks like crappy writing. But I'd be up for a break up that was in character and gave the relationship the weight it deserved in Kayla's life. Not that Days knows how to do that.

That would be interesting. Edge of Night managed to write story for years and years for female characters that did not involve love lives or romances. I don't know why they need to even bring up her love life. Just say Steve is away, and have Joey make appearances sometimes. If Kayla is lonely or has regrets that could also be used to fuel story.

It's not like there are a ton of great romances going on anyway - it seems like DAYS stopped being a big romance show a long time ago.

Don't get up. So how are you? What happened, eh? Let me guess, Stefano told you that you could fly,and you jumped off a building. HeHe It's funny right, no I'm sorry Bad EJ, I should'nt be that cruel!

Here is what I got from the interview.

She has no story without Steve

She does not have a story right now

She is reminiscing about her past with Steve, since she gotta to do something to pass the time.

Now why again is she needed? GET RID OF THIS POINTLESS CHARACTER!

NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll give you that Kayla's certainly not being used in a way that makes her integral to the show right now, but if they got rid of every character that you've deemed pointless, I think we'd pretty much be left with EJ and maybe a couple others.

I'm still not understanding why you feel so strongly about getting rid of Kayla. I get that you don't like her and if she was onscreen a lot and taking up airtime for characters you do like, I'd totally understand, even if I didn't agree. But she's on like 3 days a month. She's not taking up airtime, she's not interfering in stories. She's just kind of there. That's how I prefer that the show treat characters that I can't stand.

BTW, I'm not questioning your right to have your opinion at all. It's yours and I respect it. I'm just still trying to figure out what is so offensive to you about Kayla appearing 3 days a month, if that.

I thought we went over this already? I am not offended by her presence, just fail to see why she is on the show if she does not have a story. That is with any character,if you are just "there" you serve no purpose.

For me, EJ is the one who's "just there." He might be fueling story, but he's fueling story I don't enjoy. I don't hate the character or anything, but I don't see anything new there. His story hasn't varied much in a long time. He has an on again/off again thing with Sami, and when he's not with her he's with Nicole. That's the story he gets. It's hardly riveting. I don't even think James thinks it's anything approaching riveting. He seems bored a lot.

Kayla may not have a story at the moment, but she's a presence periodically, and who knows...there might be something coming around the corner at some point. It'll be good if there is. I love Kayla, and she's a welcome character for me.

She's in the same exact boat as Wally and Judi and I can tell you, as a fan of them both, it's frustrating! You know that they can hit it out of the park and yet TPTB won't give them that chance. Mary Beth is one that can hit it out of the park and they'll have her behind the bar doing nothing. We get to see more of the same stuff-- sigh..... :shame:

It even happened on Days before when Doug returned to Salem in the late 80s without Julie. Doug & Julie were divorced off screen and no reason was ever given. After Doug left Salem again, Julie returned alone. They didn't have leading storylines but they were involved with others, and as a fan of Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes, I was happy to see them. I don't see why the same thing wouldn't work for Kayla. MaryBeth is an excellent actress and I would love to see more of her on Days.
